The matter of speeding is of concern to many people in the community

The Parish Council has been in discussion with the city council as well as the police regarding speeding in the village. The Parish Council is particularly concerned that there are some persistent offenders and that no heed is paid to the time of day and circumstances - often very fast cars are speeding through the village while the school children are crossing the roads, walking to school / the bus or standing at bus stops. The village is not used as a rat-run so these people are, in the main, local.

At a recent meeting of the Rural Neighbourhood Panel of the local police force, this matter was raised. It is a concern shared by other villages as well. The police are not in a position to carry out constant speed checks, but are supportive of community action to help eradicate the problem. There is an organisation called Speedwatch which empowers a community to take action - a group of volunteers will be trained to use a speed camera and will be able to gather evidence of speeding.

In order for a scheme to work, it has to have the support of the village and a number of volunteers to carry out the checks.

The Parish Council would very much welcome your views on this matter and would like as much feedback as possible. Please email to let the council know your views using this form

This matter will be discussed at the Parish Council meeting on 4th November if you would like to make personal representation.
